Start your journey at Quitumbe Bus Terminal (South of Quito). Here you will need to purchase a bus ticket to Latacunga from the first floor (near the toilets). Tickets cost $2.35 and the journey takes around 1.5hrs, these buses are very regular.
Once you arrive at Latacunga you will need to catch a bus to Ambarto (from the same bus terminal). These tickets cost $1.15, the journey takes around 50 mins and buses leave roughly every hour. They are a bit disorganised so this is subject to change.
This bus will take you to Ambarto’s Terminal Terrestre, from here you will need to take a taxi to Terminal America in the south of Ambarto (you can just ask the taxi for the bus to Baños). A taxi should cost no more than $2, make sure to have them put it on the meter. The trip takes around 10 minutes.
From Ambarto Terminal America you can catch a bus to Baños, Hurrah! It costs $1.15 and leaves roughly every hour, the journey lasting about 1 hour. You are dropped at Baños Main terminal which is walking distance to the centre and to all the most popular hostels.
There you have it, the Backpackers route from Quito to Baños, costing you a measly $6.65 and taking between 4/5 hours dependent on traffic and how efficiently the buses are running!
Hope this helps, let us know in the comments if you have taken this journey, or if anything has changed so we can keep our guide up to date!
